Step into the world of a young Priscilla Presley: bubblegum shag rug, pedicured toes, soft pink lipstick, swooping eyeliner, fake lashes, Aqua Net and a boy named Elvis.
Written and directed by Sofia Coppola, “Priscilla” will thrust audiences once more into the life of Elvis Presley, but this time from the perspective of his wife, Priscilla Presley. The trailer for the film, which is set for an October release, dropped Wednesday.
The 45-second montage-style trailer gives viewers a taste of what is to come in the movie, starring Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla and Jacob Elordi as Elvis.
There is one line: “Priscilla, what about boys at school? There must be some handsome ones,” met with a look of dismissal.
The 106-minute film’s original score was done by band Phoenix (the lead singer, Thomas Mars, is married to Coppola).
‘Priscilla’ movie with Jacob Elordi, Cailee Spaeny to paint portrait of Priscilla Presley and Elvis’ relationship
The film paints a portrait of their relationship colored with fame: teenaged Priscilla Beaulieu’s first encounter with the already larger than life Elvis who was many years her senior, the pair’s drawn out courtship and tempestuous marriage. The movie is based on Priscilla’s 1985 memoir, “Elvis And Me,” written with Sandra Harmon.
Spaeny, 24, has credits including “On the Basis of Sex,” “Pacific Rim: Uprising” and “Bad Times at the El Royale.” Elordi, 25, is known for his performances in hit show “Euphoria,” “The Kissing Booth” movie series and “2 Hearts.”
Sofia Coppola’s ‘Priscilla’ comes on heels of Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Elvis’
Elvis Presley has been a popular culture icon for half a century but with rave reviews of Austin Butler’s performance as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 flick “Elvis,” the conversation around the late star has flourished.
But “Elvis” glazed over his relationship with his wife. While viewers catch a glimpse of the couple’s chemistry and are made aware of the 10-year age gap, “Elvis” mostly glosses over the bracing reality that the two met while he was stationed in Germany in 1959, when Priscilla was 14 and Elvis was 24.
