Filey, nestled in North Yorkshire, is a seaside gem that transports you back to simpler times.

Its Edwardian allure, cosy pubs, unique shops and weekly farmers’ market create an atmosphere where time seems to stand still, making it the perfect spot for a weekend trip.

The town boasts a vast, breathtaking bay of orange sand that extends for miles, offering the ideal setting for a tranquil walk.

The combination of sand, sea and fresh air encourages visitors to pause and appreciate their surroundings – an excellent thing to do if mindfulness is your goal for 2025.

After soaking up the view, make your way to the beachside slipway at Coble Landing for some of the finest fish and chips in the area.

For the adventurous, Filey Brigg, a fossil-rich outcrop extending into the sea, is a must-visit.

At low tide, the brigg becomes accessible, revealing a rocky landscape beloved by fishermen and nature enthusiasts alike. Whether you’re hunting for fossils or simply enjoying the natural beauty, it’s a joy to explore.

Filey forms part of the magnificent East Yorkshire coastline, stretching from Flamborough Head to Spurn Head. It offers the charm of a traditional British seaside resort without the hustle and bustle of larger towns, reports the Mirror.

Filey rolls out the red carpet for all manner of holidaymakers with its amazing accommodation options. For breath-taking views, you can’t do better than The White Lodge Hotel, perched atop a cliff offering sprawling vistas of Filey Bay.

Couples eyeing a romantic retreat, especially with Valentine’s Day looming, should look no further than the charm of the White Rose Guesthouse, boasting chic rooms, an enchanting garden, and the promise of delicious breakfasts.

On the hunt for something that won’t break the bank? Athol House B&B, a stone’s throw from the sands, extends a cosy embrace with its inviting ambience.

Take a tip and opt for a room overlooking the bay; the view is an absolute show-stopper. Singing Filey’s praises, one TripAdvisor reviewer penned: “If you like amusements, rides, loud music etc. then go to Scarborough! If however you like your seaside towns just like they were when you were a kid years and years ago then Filey is the place for you!”

Another beachgoer said: “This is a lovely long beautiful beach. It was mild and sunny when we walked along the beach from the resort that we were staying at to the centre of Filey. We had lots of fun finding stones and shells and lobster tails and exploring the ruins and shelters.”

One reviewer was also quick to sing its praises: “Filey as a seaside town is infinitely more classy than about 90% of all other UK seaside towns, and so it is little wonder that Filey Beach is one of the nicest in the country.

“Bookended by Filey Brigg on one side”.
