Giants might return from bye-week without injured Cam Skattebo

The memory of Cam Skattebo sliding to the ground with hamstring tightness on one of the final plays of the Giants’ overtime win against the Texans was overshadowed for a week until Monday.

As the Giants returned from the bye, Skattebo began practice off to the side with a trainer. The Giants do not have to put out an official injury report until Wednesday.

“I don’t have a [concern] scale,” head coach John Harbaugh said. “It’s going to be probably day to day up to the game for those guys. I’ll probably have more information toward the end of the week.”

The Giants’ running back position is in flux with Skattebo injured and Tyrone Tracy Jr. (hamstring) out for the next four games.

Devin Singletary and Gregory Desrosiers (signed off the Chargers practice squad last week) are the only healthy rushers on the 53-man roster. The Giants re-signed 2023 draft pick Eric Gray, whom they cut in August, to the practice squad.

Running back also is a position that the Giants are targeting in trade talks. The Colts’ asking price for Jonathan Taylor is high right now.

LT Andrew Thomas, who has been battling through a groin injury, welcomed last week’s bye.

“I didn’t do much, just laid low and did some recovery stuff,” Thomas told The Post. “I felt like in weeks past, you make a little [headway], you have a game which stresses the area and sets you back a little bit. When you don’t practice much throughout the week and do the same thing consistently for six weeks, it’s not the strongest process. Now there’s time off. Hopefully no more setbacks and I’m in a better spot.”

Thomas is optimistic he will be able to play Sunday against the Eagles and on a quick turnaround to “Thursday Night Football” against the Commanders before enjoying another long layoff.

OLB Abdul Carter did not practice due to an illness, Harbaugh said.

DL Josh Tupou was released to make room for Gray. He played in one game.

Harbaugh watched the NFL like a fan Sunday.

“I’m watching the Dallas game real closely,” Harbaugh said. “And then you do flip [the channel]. You have those stations now, and you can see four of them, and then you can see which one you want to go to, and that’s to commercial, so I’m going back to this one. I was moving all around. I was spinning the dial on the games, which was really a lot of fun. It was a fun day. I could see why people love watching the NFL.”
