Miles Sanders’ attorney is attempting to get the attention of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones after the lawyer said on Wednesday the NFL free agent’s DUI case is on the cusp of ending.
In an exclusive interview with the California Post, Phil DiLucente, Sanders’ counsel, said that after roughly an hour in a Pennsylvania courtroom on Wednesday, his client agreed to “participate in what’s called accelerated rehabilitative disposition” to close out his drunk driving case.
DiLucente said the program will require Sanders to complete a list of conditions, but if he meets them all, the one-time Pro Bowler will soon have his criminal charges “expunged.”
The lawyer then said Sanders will turn his sights toward wearing a helmet with a star on it once again.
“He looks forward to playing for Mr. Jones in the very near future,” DiLucente said of the famed team owner.
Sanders, who last suited up in the NFL for the Cowboys during the 2025 season, is facing one count of DUI and one count of careless driving after he was accused of being impaired behind the wheel of a Lexus on June 8 in Pennsylvania.
Sanders was found by cops “slumped in the driver’s seat” of his car as it was stopped in the middle of a roadway, according to the criminal complaint, and the 29-year-old allegedly exhibited signs of intoxication during ensuing questioning.
Authorities wrote in the complaint that a “sluggish and lethargic” Sanders had “glassy” eyes and an odor of alcohol emanating from his breath. Officials also claimed Sanders admitted to drinking before performing poorly on field sobriety testing.
A portable breath test administered to Sanders allegedly turned up positive for alcohol.
Sanders, who officially became an NFL free agent in March, is now due in court for a further hearing in his case on Dec. 16, though DiLucente said Wednesday he’s anticipating the matter will all be disposed “sometime in January.”
“My client was pleased,” DiLucente said following Wednesday’s court proceedings. “He looks healthier than ever.”
A message seeking comment on the case from the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office was not immediately returned.
Sanders, a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, played his first four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He then joined the Carolina Panthers for two years, before inking a contract with the Cowboys in March 2025.
Sanders, who played in just four games for Dallas before suffering an injury, has totaled 4,462 rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns in 88 NFL games.
