Titans head coach Robert Saleh addressed the team cutting ties with defensive lineman Jordan Elliott, who was released Tuesday after he went to retrieve a firearm from his car after an argument with a teammate last week.

“These kids go through a lot,” Saleh explained Wednesday. “I will stand on the table for Jordan’s character. My message to 31 other teams: If you need a hell of a run-stopping (defensive tackle) that can help for a playoff run, give me a call. I’ll tell you everything you need to know about him. He’s a good man. Had a terrible lapse in judgement that I recognize as a call for help more than a criminal act.”

Elliott had a confrontation with offensive lineman JC Latham during practice last Thursday, according to Houston’s KPRC2.

He was told to leave, after which Elliott reportedly left the locker room visibly upset.

Elliott could be seen on security cameras heading to his car to apparently grab his gun before fellow Titan John Franklin-Myers stopped him from going further, per KPRC2.

A source told KPRC2 that Elliott had been dealing with family issues at home and his reaction last Thursday likely stemmed from that.

Elliott did not practice Friday due to what the team called a non-injury related/personal reason, and was made inactive for Sunday’s win over the Colts.

Saleh referenced two suicides of NFL players that have occurred in the past year and expressed concern over players being able to get the help they need.

Elliott followed Saleh to Tennessee from the 49ers, after his career began with four seasons in Cleveland.
