Czech sports reporter Sabina Jaksova said she was “pleasantly surprised” that her interview with David Oulehla, coach of the Czech team FK Viagem Ústí nad Labem, went viral after the team’s 3-2 defeat to SFC Opava earlier this month.
A video of the interview, which showed Jaksova in a low-cut top and Oulegla avoiding looking in her direction, racked up millions of views and reactions online.
During an interview with SunSport, Jaksova, who is a reporter for Viagem, commended the coach’s behavior and explained that his wife, Lucie, was “pleased” that the video got such attention.
“His wife watches our interviews closely, and I believe she was pleased this interview went viral,” Jaksova said.
“David has very strong willpower, and we’re proud of him at the club. I didn’t notice him looking away, because I was concentrating on what he was saying.”
Jaksova explained that she was surprised the video had global reach.
“I’m used to attention, because FK Viagem Ústí nad Labem are one of the most followed clubs in the Czech Republic. People recognize me in my own country, and I am a popular presenter,” she said.
“But I was pleasantly surprised that it spread like this beyond our borders.”
Some criticized Jaksova for her outfit choices during interviews.
She doesn’t see any issue with her revealing ensembles.
“I don’t think I dress provocatively,” she said. “Here in the Czech Republic, it’s normal for a woman to put on nice clothes and heels when she goes out and wants to look good.
“Entertainment is at the core of our marketing, and everything else is built around it. At Viagem, we believe football is like show business.
“I understand it would make some people happy if I was covered up, but on the other hand, I’d disappoint a lot of people too.”
Jaksova also praised her partner, boxing trainer Petr Petružálek, with whom she shares two children.
“My partner Petr and my family are a huge support to me. We have a lovely relationship full of love,” she added.
Jaksova previously explained that she was approached directly for a presenter job by the Czech team.
“The club’s management contacted me directly and made me the offer. I admit that I was happy and surprised at the same time,” she said following her appointment.
“I thought about it for a while, but finally said: ‘Why not? I’ll try.’ However, I had no experience, so I learned everything along the way.”
