The Eagles are adding some insurance under center.
Philadelphia has signed quarterback Joe Milton off the Cowboys’ practice squad, according to multiple reports.
Milton appeared in four games for Dallas in 2025, throwing for 183 yards on 24 attempts with one touchdown and two interceptions.
The Cowboys traded for Milton before last season after he had an eye-opening season finale for the Patriots in 2024 — completing 22-of-29 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown in a 23-16 win over the Bills.
He again flashed his potential — and tantalizing arm-talent — during this preseason with a three-touchdown game against the Cardinals.
However, the 26-year-old Milton was waived by the Cowboys on Sept. 1 and placed on their practice squad two days later with Sam Howell being named the backup.
Milton will likely join Tanner McKee and rookie Cole Payton on the Eagles’ active roster as the emergency quarterback, meaning he’s unlikely to see much playing time barring any more injuries.
The move comes after news broke Thursday that Hurts would be out indefinitely with a superficial blood clot in his calf, just the latest in a myriad of losses that have hit the Eagles in recent weeks.
The team’s statement revealed that Hurts’ blood clot was discovered via ultrasound before their game in London against the Jaguars last Sunday. A second ultrasound Wednesday revealed the movement of the blood clot, putting Hurts on the shelf indefinitely as the Eagles “determine the appropriate course of treatment.”
McKee will likely be the Eagles’ starter for the time being as they try to get back on track after a 2-3 start in a wide open NFC East.
Sunday’s game against the Panthers will mark McKee’s third career start. His previous two career starts were in end-of-season matchups after the Eagles had secured their spot in the postseason.
The Eagles face Milton’s former Cowboys team in their first of two meeting in a Week 7 “Monday Night Football” matchup on October 26th.
Milton was drafted in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft with the 193rd overall pick by New England.
Milton spent the first three years of his college career at Michigan before transferring to Tennessee.
