The Los Angeles Dodgers have dug themselves into quite a deep hole.

The Dodgers are now down 3-0 in their NLCS series against the Milwaukee Brewers after Wednesday night’s 6-2 loss.

The last time the Dodgers were down 3-0 in a postseason series was 60 years ago, when they lost the first three games of the 1966 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Orioles won Game 4 of that World Series by a score of 1-0, cementing the sweep against Los Angeles. The legendary Don Drysdale was the losing pitcher for the Dodgers in that fateful Game 4.

In fact, history has been historically bad for MLB teams who were down three games in a best-of-seven series. Only one team has ever crawled out of that deficit to win a series: the Boston Red Sox, who famously did so against the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS.

Aside from that, 41 of the other 42 MLB postseason series where a team went up 3-0 has ended with that team advancing. 32 of those have ended in a sweep.

At least Dodgers fans won’t have to wait long to see whether this NLCS series becomes No. 33 that ended with a sweep, as Game 4 is arriving on Thursday night.
