The Mets are too heavy on the analytics side with scores of number crunchers and only about four MLB scouts after veteran scout Roy Smith (the former MLB pitcher who played on juggernaut Mount Vernon High hoops teams with Scooter and Rodney McCray) wasn’t renewed, via sources.
They need more scouts, more experience and folks who can offer dissent to decisions that might seem analytically right but miss the big picture. Yes, like the call to let Pete Alonso leave without an offer.
