The Giants and their fans are reeling from the news that quarterback Jaxson Dart will need season-ending surgery after suffering a knee injury during “Monday Night Football” against the Rams.
The difficult news has many thinking about the future of Dart and the Giants as a whole.
Dart’s MRI showed no damage to his ACL, avoiding that dire outcome, but he reportedly suffered damage to his MCL, PCL and meniscus.
The injury’s severity makes Giants legend Tiki Barber wonder whether Dart’s future with Big Blue is in question.
“It sucks more importantly for Jaxson Dart, because he’s going to be in a question mark massive bubble when he finally comes back …if we don’t see him, and we had these questions before this season, now we’re gonna ask these questions after this injury, and then before this year is over you gotta start deciding whether or not you wanna pick up his fifth-year option … we’re not gonna see,” Barber said on WFAN’s “Evan and Tiki.”
“And John Harbaugh didn’t draft him,” he continued. “I know that’s not what we wanna hear and think but this is the reality of being an NFL player. It is a ‘What have you done for me now?’ business, and you can get replaced like that … I’m not sugarcoating the reality that Jaxson Dart might not be the guy.”
While his words seem harsh immediately following Dart being sidelined, Barber is not alone in raising these questions. There is online discourse over what the Giants could do next.
If they play poorly without Dart going forward, they will likely have a high draft pick in a 2027 class that features several strong quarterback prospects.
With the news of his 2026 season being over, Dart will have only played in 16 games over his first two NFL seasons.
