The Mets are hosting an old friend once again Tuesday night, as Pete Alonso and the Orioles take the field in Queens against the Amazin’s.
It’s safe to say that both starting pitchers at Citi Field for this matchup have not been up to par.
The Orioles are sending Shane Baz to the mound, who has found little success in 10 starts away from home, trotting a 2-8 record alongside a 4.18 ERA.
As for the Mets, Sean Manaea aims to rebound from a nightmarish September start in which he has surrendered 16 hits and nine earned runs across 10 ⅔ innings.
Sportsbooks list the home team as -130 favorites, while setting the Over/Under at 8.5 total runs.
Mets vs. Orioles prediction, best bet
Much has been discussed about Alonso’s departure from Flushing and choosing to join the Orioles in free agency. However, both teams are struggling near the bottom of their respective standings as the season nears its end.
Although the Mets haven’t exactly shattered expectations, Juan Soto remains a significant threat at the plate whenever he appears.
The five-time All-Star is 3-for-5, including a home run and an RBI, in eight career plate appearances against Baz.
I expect Soto to continue his success, especially since Baz relies heavily on his four-seam fastball, which makes up 34.4 percent of his pitch mix, according to StatCast.
This season, Soto is batting .294 against fastballs with 53 hits and 17 home runs.

He has a good chance to go yard in this matchup.
Manaea’s poor pitching of late has me staying away from the Mets moneyline, but I’m willing to wager on Soto delivering at the plate as he typically does.
