The Giants open their season against the Cowboys under the bright lights on Sunday Night Football and the anticipation has been building all summer for both teams.

Oddsmakers at BetMGM initially opened the Cowboys as 2.5-point favorites when lines first opened this summer. As of Monday morning, the Cowboys are 3-point favorites on the road against the Giants with the Over/Under sitting at 48 total points.

That spread almost certainly has the history of these two teams baked into it.

The Giants are a woeful 1-10 outright against the Cowboys when the two teams meet in Week 1. The two teams most recently opened the season against each other in 2023, and the Cowboys throttled Big Blue 40-0.

The lone season-opening win the Giants have against the Cowboys came in 2016, which was Odell Beckham Jr.’s last Pro Bowl season with the G-Men.

The star receiver, whose highlight catch against the Cowboys two seasons earlier helped turn him into a household name, is back in blue this season and will certainly be looking to add more highlights to his reel.

But winning the game will be paramount for both teams as each franchise has a lot to prove entering the campaign.

The Cowboys’ explosive offense was unable to outpace its paltry defense last season and the Giants managed to squander their momentum on a weekly basis during their nine-game losing streak in the middle of the season.

Significant coaching changes for both teams — head coach Jon Harbaugh for the Giants and defensive coordinator for the Cowboys — along with fresh young talent from the draft could push both teams in the right direction this year.

The Giants generated a ton of futures wagers at the betting window throughout the offseason, with more betting tickets to make the playoffs than any other team at BetMGM.

The Cowboys, as usual, have massive hype entering the season as bettors have wagered more dollars on the Cowboys to win the NFC East than any other team in the division.

In Week 1, we’ll get our first real glimpse at both teams and find out if either side is ready to meet or exceed the growing expectations being placed on them.
