One hyped NFL rookie is going to miss some time just weeks before the start of the regular season.

Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love will miss at least one week as he deals with a sore ankle, head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters Saturday.

Love made his debut Thursday in Arizona’s 27-14 win over the Raiders and rushed the ball 11 times for 58 yards and had three receptions for 14 yards, but he also hurt his ankle.

“We’ll keep him out this week, as we let it heal,” LaFleur said at a press conference. “A little bit more sore than we were anticipating.”

He is not expected to play against the Cowboys next weekend, though his status for the rest of the preseason is not immediately clear.

Love comes to Arizona with plenty of hype as the No. 3 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft after a standout career at Notre Dame in which he scored 35 rushing touchdowns over his final two seasons.

In his final collegiate season, Love became an All-American and earned the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back and was awarded a four-year, $53 million rookie contract to set the record for the most guaranteed money ever given to a running back.

He flashed his ability and quickness with a few impressive runs in his pro debut, making defenders out of the backfield.

The Cardinals are already waiting for veteran back James Conner to return to full action after he injured his right foot last year and missed most of the season.

Arizona also has Tyler Allgeier and Bam Knight on the roster who could step up if Love were to miss any extended period of time.

Week 1 is just a little less than a month away on Sept. 13 against the Chargers, so Love still has time to get back into game-ready shape.
