A California man, who went missing while on a weekend camping trip near Big Bear Lake with his fiancée, was found dead by authorities near his camp site.

Cops said that 47-year-old Brian Schofield was visiting the Yellow Post Campsite No. 33 in Fawnskin with his fiancée. The couple went to bed around 11:30 pm on Sunday.

However, when his fiancée woke up, she couldn’t find Schofield and reported him missing on Monday morning around 8:53 am.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, after an extensive search, said that Schofield was found dead near his campsite on Monday night.

“After a preliminary investigation, investigators observed no signs of foul play regarding his death,” the sheriff’s department said in a social media post.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Schofield’s death and the cause remains unknown at the moment.

Standing 6’2″ tall and weighing roughly 180 pounds, Schofield was described as having brown hair and brown eyes by the cops as they put out an alert over the weekend. He was last seen dressed in a blue t-shirt, camouflage shorts, a gray beanie, and orange hiking boots.

The Big Bear Sheriff’s Station is urging anyone with information about the incident to reach out at 909-866-0100. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call or text “REPORT” to WeTip at 844-909-3006.
