One of Red Bull New York’s young stars is now an MLS All-Star.
Julian Hall was named to the MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday as a commissioner’s pick for the squad of players that will face the LIGA MX All-Stars on July 29 at Bank of America Stadium.
The honor is the latest feather in the cap for the 18-year-old, who has a team-leading nine goals this season in 15 regular-season matches.
Hall’s nine goals have him in the top-10 in scoring in the league this season after he recorded his first career MLS brace in a season-opening win over Orlando City SC.
He scored a hat trick in a 3-2 win over the Columbus Crew on May 13, becoming the youngest player in MLS history to score three goals in a single match at 18 years, 50 days.
His All-Star Game nod makes him the third player in club history with New York roots to be named to an MLS All-Star squad.
Hall, a Manhattan native, joins former Red Bulls defender Mike Petke, from Bohemia, and Wappingers Falls native Tyler Adams.
Speaking in June after a Red Bulls training at the club’s new facility in Morristown, N.J., Hall called his first half of the season “decent.”
“I mean, for me personally, I always strive for more,” he told reporters. “I had a decent first half of the season. I always want to do better, especially for the second half of the season and as we push for the playoffs.”
The Red Bulls are sitting in fifth in the Eastern Conference and went into the World Cup break as winners in three of their last four matches.
Head coach Michael Bradley said on Tuesday the club has used the World Cup break as a “second preseason.”
“MLS is always a league where the teams that can really find their form and find momentum in the second part of the season as you get into that last stretch run of games,” he said, “those are the teams that historically do really well.”
