Terrion Arnold might not be a free agent for long. At least his attorney doesn’t think so.
Arnold, who was released by the Lions Monday after facing eight felony charges in Florida, expects to sign with an NFL team within 30 days, according to his attorney, Harvey Steinberg.
Steinberg also told a Florida court that three teams have already contacted Arnold since he was cut by the Lions.
The 23-year-old won’t clear waivers until Thursday afternoon, but will be free to sign with a team afterward, though it remains to be seen if anyone will take a chance on him given his legal situation.
The former Alabama prospect was arrested on June 24 and charged with four counts of kidnapping and four of armed robbery stemming from a February kidnapping and assault of three men.
Prosecutors allege Arnold orchestrated an abduction and robbery of three men whom he believed had stolen money and luxury items from him.
If Arnold is found guilty, the charges could carry a life sentence in prison, though he maintains his innocence.
Representatives of Arnold said there’s no evidence linking him to the allegations.
Chief Judge Christopher C. Sabella is presiding over Arnold’s case in Florida and denied the state’s request to keep the cornerback in jail, allowing him to play in the NFL as his case carries on.
While teams have until July 6 to claim Arnold, there’s a possibility he could be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list as the trial remains ongoing.
The Lions hoped they found their next star cornerback when they drafted Arnold 24th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, but he didn’t pan out with the team.
Arnold grabbed one interception across two years with the Lions and missed significant time with a concussion and shoulder injury.
He played in just 24 of 34 possible games over two seasons in Detroit.
