Cooking a delicious meal for your loved ones is enjoyable, but the kitchen can sometimes become a stressful environment.
It’s even more frustrating when unattended pots start to overflow from boiling water. This is a common occurrence when boiling starchy foods like potatoes or pasta.
But did you know there’s a simple trick to prevent this from happening, particularly when you’re busy with other cooking tasks?
All you need is one common freezer item and your problem is solved. The useful life hack was recently shared on Instagram by user @thegoochpage, who has an impressive following of 815,000.
So what’s the magic item that will put an end to all your pot-overflow worries?
It’s ice… Yes, it’s that straightforward. In the video, the poster wrote: “To keep a pot of boiling water from overflowing, simply drop an ice cube.”
And within seconds, you witness the magic unfold right before your eyes. The caption read: “Easy kitchen hack you should know.”
Since it was posted, many people were astounded by how simple the solution was. One person commented: “Genius why did I not think of that?” Another added: “Also works to keep grease from popping.”
A third remarked: “Good to know.”
However, some were sceptical about whether an ice cube could really solve the issue.
Other Instagram users suggested placing a wooden spoon on top of the pan to prevent it from overflowing, while some joked turning down the heat was the best option.
One person suggested: “Or you just put a small amount of oil round the top of the rim.”
Unfortunately, some culinary enthusiasts have stated that adding an ice cube did not make a difference, or if it did, the effect was fleeting. So, will you give this clever kitchen trick a go?
