A huge wall of snow is set to sweep Britain on Boxing Day meaning large parts of the country could catch a glimpse of some festive flakes.

New WXCHARTS weather maps have turned various shades of purple indicating that snow is on its way.

The North West of England could draw back the curtains and uncover a white Boxing Day as key cities could see 2cm-3cm of snow fall per hour at 6am.

Yorkshire and the Humber will also see a dumping of snow on Boxing Day morning could see snow depths reach 2cm.

Elsewhere North and Mid Wales will see a sprinkling of the white stuff as 0.5cm of snow could fall by hour.

Scotland will not miss out on seeing some festive flakes with the Highlands and Aberdeenshire predicted a wall of snow with depths of up to 1cm suggested.

As we go into midday on Boxing Day a huge wall of snow is set to blast London.

Brutal weather maps predict the capital could see a hammering of the white stuff as 3cm of snow per hour could fall.

The South East and East of England could see snow depths reach upto 2cm.

Some snow will stick around in parts of the Scottish Highlands and West Wales could also see a light dusting.

Separately, in the Met Office’s weather update for Christmas Eve until January 7, the forecaster is warning that “some sleet and snow is likely at times, especially on high ground in the north”.

During this period, “unsettled conditions appear likely for most, with spells of wind and rain followed by showers affecting most areas but especially the north and northwest of the UK”.

However, there are signs that more settled conditions are sometimes possible, “these perhaps most likely across the south late in December or into early January”.

Temperatures are likely to be around average overall.
