When cooked correctly, this versatile white meat has the potential to be juicy and delicious. However, it can be all too tempting to overcook it, especially as we all know how dangerous chicken can be when it’s undercooked. This desire to blast it in the oven can leave it dry and tough, so timing really is everything if you want the perfect cut of meat.
However, there is one thing you can do to elevate your chicken cooking game. According to one viral video on TikTok, adding just one common kitchen ingredient to your marinade can make all the difference.
In a video shared by Keto Recipes, it was claimed that you can achieve the “juiciest chicken breast you’ve ever had” just by following a few simple steps – including using one item we all have in the cupboard.
The video explained that you should start by seasoning your chicken with whichever herbs and spices you like to make a marinade that will help the meat retain some of its juice. The man in the clip specifically used “a few easy spices, yoghurt, and lemon juice” to make the marinade for his chicken.
He also added one secret ingredient – baking soda. He reasoned that using a “tiny bit” of baking soda can help “loosen the fibres” in the chicken breast, making the meat more tender when it’s cooked. When the time came to cook his chicken, the man stressed the importance of cooking it on a medium heat with a lid on. He did this for three minutes before flipping and cooking for another seven minutes.
For his final tip, the man said it was vital that you let your chicken rest for “five minutes” once it’s finished cooking. He claimed that following these steps would allow for “perfect chicken every time”.
In the caption of the video, he explained: “These are the secrets to the juiciest chicken breasts you’ve ever had: baking soda, cooking with lid on, and letting it rest – these are practically dripping with juice, and they’re so good.”
Commenters on the post were blown away by the idea of putting baking soda on chicken, and the man insisted that “just a little goes a long way” when it comes to using the ingredient.
