The 70-year-old woman who died after riding Universal Orlando’s Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster was enjoying a day at the Florida theme park with her children and grandchildren when tragedy struck, her family’s lawyer said.
Now the grief-stricken family of Ma de La Luz Mejia Rosas is looking for answers after she became unresponsive while riding the high-speed indoor attraction — which can reach speeds up to 45 mph — and was rushed to a nearby hospital on Nov. 25, 2025, according civil rights attorney Ben Crump.
Rosas died nearly two weeks later of a ruptured aneurysm without trauma at Orlando Regional Medical Center on Dec. 9, the Orange County Medical Examiner ruled, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
“Mrs. Rosas went to the park to enjoy time with her children and grandchildren, expecting a safe and joyful experience,” Crump said in a statement Tuesday.
“Instead, her family is now left grieving and searching for answers. They deserve a full understanding of what happened before, during, and after this ride. We intend to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragedy and ensure her family’s voice is heard.”
He added that the grandma’s devastated loved ones are demanding information on the ride’s operations, safety protocols, maintenance, and incident records, and full transparency about what led to her death.
The eerily lit indoor coaster, inspired by “The Mummy” films, races riders through nearly 2,200 feet of tomb-themed scenery, fire effects, and haunting projections in about three minutes.
There have been 21 incidents reported on the Revenge of the Mummy ride since it opened in 2004, with complaints including nausea, dizziness, a seizure and a fractured vertebra, KTLA5 reported.
Limited details about Rosas’ death were revealed last week in a quarterly reported released by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Her name, cause of death, or when she died were not included in the report.
The state agency tracks injuries, deaths, and other medical episodes among guests at Florida’s major theme parks, including Universal, Walt Disney World, SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, and Legoland.
Universal previously told The Post “we do not comment on pending claims.”
Rosas’s tragic death happened two months after Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, 32, became unresponsive while riding the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Universal’s Epic Universe and died on Sept 17, 2025.
His death was ruled an accident from blunt impact injuries.
Crump also represented Zavala’s family in a suit against the theme park.
