Following an agonising wait, Disney enthusiasts have received their first glimpse of the forthcoming Toy Story film, though numerous viewers have highlighted an odd element within the preview.
Toy Story 5 is scheduled for cinema release on June 19 next year, featuring the comeback of cowboy Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and cowgirl Jessie (Joan Cusack).
Fresh additions to the voice ensemble include American television presenter Conan O’Brien, who will portray potty-training toy Smarty Pants.
Meanwhile, the antagonist will be a frog-shaped tablet named Lilypad, brought to life by The Morning Show’s Greta Lee.
Within the 49-second preview clip, unveiled yesterday (November 11), the playthings appear trembling and agape with terror following the arrival of a mysterious parcel, whilst INXS’ Never Tear Us Apart provides the soundtrack, reports the Daily Record.
The package, delivered for returning character Bonnie – who assumed responsibility for Andy’s toys – holds a cutting-edge tablet, indicating the franchise’s readiness to offer observations on children’s technological landscape in the fifth instalment.
However, supporters have swiftly questioned Woody’s appearance in the trailer, given that Toy Story 4’s conclusion saw him abandon Bonnie and his companions to become an independent toy alongside his cherished Bo Peep.
Toy Story 4 producer Mark Nielsen had previously declared that Toy Story 4 represented “the completion of Woody’s arc and the story of Buzz and Woody,” explaining why devotees have expressed frustration at their return.
One film enthusiast joked: “Woody in Toy Story 4: Imma head out. Wood in Tory Story 5: Nevermind, I’m back.” Another insisted: “You better explain why Woody is back, Pixar.”
A third chimed in: “It took me a sec to realise Woody came back. Because in my mind, he never left. Toy Story 3 will always be the true ending for me,” while a fourth wrote: “Gotta love Woody just randomly being back. No explanation, he’s just here.”
Another movie buff expressed their anticipation for the new film’s theme, stating: “Not gonna lie, but the concept of toys vs. technology in Toy Story 5 might actually work since now, many kids play with their technology instead of playing with their dolls and action figures.”
Toy Story 5 is slated for release on June 19, 2026
