Glasses and cutlery often come out of the dishwasher marked because water droplets dry on them and leave behind minerals from the water, causing spots or cloudy marks. While they are not harmful, they can be unappealing to look at or serve to guests, especially if they appear dirty. While it’s recommended to clean the appliance once a month when using it regularly, one other job often gets forgotten about completely.
That includes adding rinse aid to the dishwasher, which helps clear marks on glasses, cutlery, and glassware. I recently started to make sure I don’t forget to do this, and the results are incredible.
Rinse aid helps water run off dishes instead of leaving marks, so glasses dry nicely and sparkly without water marks.
I buy a £1.19 bottle from The Range, and it lasts me four uses, providing I only need to top it up once a month. This means each use costs me just 30p, and the difference it makes is incredible.
I’ve tried buying branded and more expensive rinse aids, but I don’t find that they make a difference at all.
Make sure to put the product in the correct compartment when adding it to your dishwasher; mine is located next to the dishwasher tablet spot.
The dishwasher then automatically releases a small amount of rinse aid during the final rinse to help the dishes dry without watermarks.
Along with the rinse aid, it’s essential to clean the dishwasher to ensure it operates properly.
This can be done in a variety of different ways, but I often use a specialist dishwasher cleaning product which comes in a bottle.
I simply screw the lid off, place it upside down in the appliance and set it on a hot cycle. I find these work a lot better than natural options. They work to remove grease, limescale and odours.
It’s also important to clean the filter and wipe down the seals, as debris can often get stuck in them, reducing the efficiency of your machine.
