Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were criticised by a royal commentator who claimed the couple’s luxurious lifestyle in the US and overall stance during their pseudo-royal tours to impoverished nations contrasts their aim to promote their philanthropic endeavours.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex embarked on two high-profile visits to Nigeria and Colombia in 2024.
However, a new German documentary which aired this week on ZDF, titled Harry – The Lost Prince, sought to highlight the image the Sussexes promote while on these tours and how, according to the film, it contrasts the countries’ socio-economic problems.
The couple sparked backlash back in August after local media in Colombia reported that their visit to the country cost it a whopping £1.5million just for their security.
The Mirror’s Russell Myers told the documentary: “If you’re going to places like Nigeria, like Colombia, which have huge socio-economic problems, some of the world’s poorest communities in these countries, and you’re turning up wearing tens of thousands of pounds worth of designer clothes – it really doesn’t send the right message.”
