Liverpool bounced back from a dismal run of four consecutive defeats with a stunning triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Arne Slot’s men found themselves behind early on when Rasmus Kristensen fired the German side into a 1-0 lead. However, Hugo Ekitike drew the Reds level shortly afterwards, before strikes from Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai wrapped up a commanding 5-1 triumph.
Liverpool will now be desperate to string together a winning run as they attempt to reel in Premier League leaders Arsenal. Slot’s squad will resume their domestic campaign on Saturday night with a trip to Brentford (8pm) this Saturday. Express Sport examines the latest Liverpool injury news and potential return dates ahead of the journey to west London…
Alexander Isak
Slot has confirmed that Alexander Isak was withdrawn at half-time following a groin problem during Wednesday’s European encounter in Germany.
“Hugo got a big chance, and he scored it,” he told TNT Sports. “Alex got a few. Unfortunately, he didn’t score yet, but he had to go off at half-time because he felt his groin a little bit. That’s a pity.
“I’ve said it many times, it’s such a difficult balance to find with a player that missed out three months. You bring him slow, you bring him slowly.
“People also, maybe, sometimes argue with me if you can’t play him more or more often – no longer. Now we’ve played him for the second time in three days and unfortunately he had to go off, so let’s hope for the best.
“But it’s it’s not an easy balance to find if a player has been out for so long.” Slot will offer more detail in his pre-Brentford press conference on Friday.

Jeremie Frimpong
Jeremie Frimpong was also forced off in the victory over Frankfurt, after he injured his hamstring in the first half at Deutsche Bank Park.
The Netherlands international was taken off after 19 minutes, with Conor Bradley introduced in his place.
“Jeremie is a hamstring issue. He came back from a hamstring injury a few weeks ago, and played for the national team one game, came back to us and now, unfortunately, after 10, 15 minutes, I don’t know, he had to go off,” Slot said post-match.
Again, expect more detail from Slot when he addresses the press tomorrow.
Return date: TBC
Ryan Gravenberch
Ryan Gravenberch remains an injury doubt for Liverpool after twisting his ankle in Sunday’s defeat to Manchester United. The midfielder missed the trip to Germany as a result but Slot has said the Dutchman could be available this weekend.
“I had to take him off during the weekend because he limped a little bit, as we could all see. So, unfortunately, he’s not ready to play,” Slot said before the Frankfurt game.
“That already means that I definitely have to change one player and, with him not being there, that might mean something for others as well, because he has such a particular quality in our squad, which we’ve seen when we played Bournemouth for example, when we played the Community Shield – that we missed a little bit of a player that was always protecting our back four.
“Ryan isn’t available for the Frankfurt game, hopefully he will be available at the weekend. But it’s an ankle injury, we have to wait and see, give him a bit of time and see where he is when we come back from Frankfurt.”
Predicted return date: Brentford (A) – Saturday, 25 October
Alisson Becker
Alisson is expected to be out of action for up to six weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury against Galatasaray in the Champions League on September 30. Providing an update on the Brazilian’s condition ahead of Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Slot stated: “Alisson is not a part of the squad tomorrow. And he’s not going to travel to Brazil as well for the national team.
“So, he will be out for Saturday. How long he’s out depends also on how fast the recovery goes. So, Saturday it’s clear that he’s not going to play for Brazil and I would be surprised if he would be there in the first game after the November international break.
“But from there on, sometimes things can go a bit faster or a bit slower. It’s always difficult to say the amount of days and weeks, but for the upcoming games he will not be part of us or the Brazil team.”
Predicted return date: November
Giovanni Leoni
Centre-back Giovanni Leoni suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during his Liverpool debut against Southampton in the Carabao Cup last month, and has since undergone surgery. He’s expected to be sidelined until midway through 2026.
Return date: Summer 2026
