An arctic blizzard will hit the UK within a fortnight as temperatures plummet to -3C, according to weather maps. Snow and rain are set to sweep in on the evening of November 4 at 6pm, covering half of England, Northern Ireland, and Scotland.
According to weather maps by WXCharts, up to 3cm of snow will settle in northern Scotland, and the majority of the country will be covered. The snow will stretch down to Leeds, turning into a barrage of rain over Manchester and Liverpool, with up to 3mm falling per hour. Even though the south of England is forecast to remain dry, it won’t escape the icy cold temperatures.
The forecast predicts temperatures will plummet below freezing at midnight on November 5 across swathes of Scotland and England, posing the risk of icy conditions.
The lowest temperature of -3C has been forecast in the west of Scotland around Glencoe, and it will stay at or below freezing in the rest of the country.
In England, Northumberland and Cumbria will be icy cold with lows of -1C, temperatures between 2-3C have been forecast in the Midlands, and the south coast will also be freezing, dipping to 0C in Kent, 1C in Norfolk, and 2C in the southwest.
It won’t drop below zero in Wales or Northern Ireland overnight, although Wales will average between 2-3C, and Northern Ireland could plummet to 2C.
According to the Met Office long-range forecast from November 4 to 18, the period will bring “changeable and unsettled” weather systems spreading from the west.
It said: “These will bring spells of rain, heavy at times, and some strong winds, interspersed with drier, brighter, and less windy periods between systems. Temperatures are expected to be close to normal or perhaps slightly above.”
