Prince Harry suffers new blow as African country cuts ties with charity | Royal | News

Prince Harry is facing a major new blow as one African country has cut ties with a charity associated with him, it has been revealed. Chad, which is a landlocked country at the crossroads of North and Central Africa, has revealed that it has axed a mandate held by the non-profit conservation group, Africans Parks.

Shared in a statement, environment Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous said that African Parks had showed “a recurring indelicate and disrespectful attitude toward the government”. He also claimed that there had been a spike in poaching, as well as a lack of investment at the reserves managed by the conservation group.

In response, a spokesperson at African Parks said that they were in talks to “explore the best way forward to support the continued protection of these landscapes that are critical to conservation”.

The Times has reported that they alleged that the charity was not active enough it trying to stop poaching.

African Parks – which was set up in 2000 – had aimed to reduce poaching, as well as helping to grow the elephant population at the Ennedi Natural and Cultural Reserve and the Greater Zakouma Ecosystem.

After previously being the president of the organisation, Harry, 41, is now a board member of African Parks.

Earlier this year, the charity admitted guards at one of the national parks had violated human rights of Indigenous people displaced when the park was made.

This marks the end of a 15-year partnership between the charity and government.

Marking the latest blow for the Duke of Sussex, Harry annouced that he was stepping down from his co-founded charity Sentebale earlier this year.

Sentebale’s chairman Sophie Chandauka made claims of harassment and misogyny, triggering the resignation of Harry as patron as well as several trustees
