There’s no better time to visit the beautiful English countryside than autumn. You can enjoy some of the prettiest and most quintessential parts of Britain from a quiet coffee shop while watching the leaves fall from the trees.

If you’re looking for somewhere to visit for a day out, look no further than this part of the Cotswolds, known for its peaceful and scenic countryside. This charming market town is filled with history and surrounded by picturesque walking routes. Stow-on-the-Wold is a popular destination for a day trip – and for good reason.

It’s known for being the highest town in the Cotswolds at 800ft above sea level and visitors love seeing this historic town at all times of the year – it never loses its charm even under cloudy skies.

On its tourist information site, Stow-on-the-Wold says: “Sitting elegantly at the hub of the Cotswolds, Stow is a natural and historic meeting place.

“Stow has a fine selection of Cotswold shops, luxury hotels and charming Cotswold accommodation.

“Stow mixes chic bistros, Cotswold inns, elegant manor house hotels, charming bed and breakfast accommodation with cosy tea shops.

“The rural informality and a fine choice of accommodation makes Stow the ideal destination for a Cotswold weekend break or holiday in the Cotswolds.”

If you’re looking for somewhere to explore, this town could be the ideal place for you before the weather gets chillier.

One person who visited on Tripadvisor said: “Not too crowded, pleasant atmosphere, it turns slowly and it is pleasant to get lost in the small shops, as well as admire the beauty of the place.”

Another penned: “We visited the Cotswolds over Christmas time 2023. We drove around to many of the villages around the Cotswolds. Stow-on-the-Wold and Broadway were our favorites. Highly recommend.”
