EFL star hit with betting ban and fine on his 21st birthday after FA statement | Football | Sport

AFC Wimbledon star Osman Foyo has been hit with an FA ban after confessing to 252 breaches of betting rules. The 21-year-old was found guilty of placing bets over an 18-month period from October 2023 to March 2025.

He will now be sidelined for a month and must pay a £1000 fine. Additionally, Foyo faces a further five-month suspension from football, which will be enforced if he is found guilty of any more breaches. On Foyo’s 21st birthday, the FA released a statement: “An independent Regulatory Commission has sanctioned AFC Wimbledon’s Osman Foyo for breaches of The FA’s betting rules.

“It was alleged that the player breached FA Rule E8 252 times by placing bets on football matches between 29 October 2023 and 28 March 2025, and Osman Foyo subsequently admitted the charge.

“The Regulatory Commission imposed a £1,000 fine and five-month suspension from all football and football-related activity following a hearing.

“One month will be served immediately, with the suspension running up to and including 2 November 2025, and four months are suspended until 2 April 2027 pending any further breaches of The FA’s betting rules.”

In response, AFC Wimbledon issued a statement: “Osman and the club have accepted the sanction, and we will continue to provide support to our player during this period of absence and beyond.”

Foyo’s suspension will result in him missing Wimbledon’s next four matches in League One, the first of which is scheduled for Saturday against Blackpool. Following this, they face Port Vale, Plymouth Argyle and Burton Albion before Foyo could potentially return.

Foyo started his career at Chelsea’s youth academy before transferring to Norwich City. He then switched to East Anglian rivals Ipswich ahead of loan spells at Torquay United, Welling United and Chelmsford City.

His most successful stint was with the latter last season, where he netted 13 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions. This led to a permanent transfer to Wimbledon in January this year, where he made six appearances as the club secured promotion from League Two.

This term, Foyo has found opportunities scarce, with his only appearances being in the EFL Trophy. Wimbledon have had a promising start to the season under Johnnie Jackson, with six victories from their first ten league games.
