Chocolate mousse is a rich and creamy dessert that tastes delicious paired with cream or a sprinkling of grated chocolate. Traditionally, chocolate mousse contains eggs, sugar, butter and good quality chocolate, but this often means it has a high fat, sugar and calorie content. Some recipes also contain cream, which only adds to the amount of saturated fat that’s been consumed in each serving.

Rather than opting for a sugary chocolate mouse from your local supermarket, you could try making a rich yet healthy version using just two ingredients. Unlike other healthy chocolate mousse recipes that contain avocado or tofu, this recipe has an added sweet fruit that adds both zest and flavour—oranges.

The recipe, which is from Nutrition Practitioner Marina Wright, can be made in five steps in as little as 25 minutes.

Marina, who has more than 660,000 followers on Instagram, said the chocolate orange mousse recipe makes five to six servings.

Chocolate orange mousse recipe

Ingredients:

  • Two organic oranges (organic oranges are grown without pesticides, making their peel safer to eat)
  • 160g dark chocolate (70% cocoa or more)
  • One cup of water

Method

  1. Wash the oranges thoroughly, cut them into pieces (leave peel on), and remove the seeds.
  2. Simmer the oranges with one cup of water in a covered pan for around 15 minutes. Ensure some liquid remains after cooking, or add a little more water if needed. According to Marina, the pectin in the oranges will thicken the mixture as it cools.
  3. Next, add the chocolate to the pan and stir until melted.
  4. Transfer everything to a blender and blend until smooth.
  5. Pour into six small ramekins or one baking dish (7.5″ x 6″), smooth the top, and refrigerate for at least two hours.
  6. Dust with cocoa powder before serving.

The recipe jus high in vitamin C from the oranges and flavonoids, magnesium and antioxidants from the dark chocolate.

The post received lots of comments from fans with many describing the recipe as “amazing” and “genius”.

One Instagram user said: “This looks AMAZING! I cannot wait to try this.”

Another replied: “I definitely have to try this!”
