A quiet little town in the mountains of Spain has come up with the perfect solution for anyone looking to escape the rat race permanently.

Ponga, in Asturias, is offering newcomers a grant to relocate there, with one major extra perk that doubles the cash incentive.

This pretty little town is nestled in the heart of the Picos de Europa mountain range, offering dramatic vistas of rugged peaks, lush green valleys, and crystal-clear rivers.

The area is part of the Ponga Natural Park, a protected region that boasts an array of diverse ecosystems.

But while wildlife is abundant, this charming little town is seeking to attract new residents in an aim to increase its population and boost the local economy.

To make this possible, Ponga is offering cash grants of €2,971 (£2,461) to people who move there, plus another £2,461 for each newborn in the family.

“Ponga is the name of both a town and municipality in one of Spain’s most northern regions, Asturias,” says Wayne Mills, the Head of Operations at Seven Seas Worldwide.

“Ponga is a little off the beaten track for tourists, but its mountainous landscape is absolutely jaw-dropping. It’s the perfect place to live in tune with nature – and the region produces amazing wines!”

The village of Ponga, like many towns in the region, retains its traditional charm, with cobbled streets, historic stone houses, and a relaxed, rural atmosphere.

This makes it an ideal destination for those looking to experience authentic Asturias away from the crowds and just enjoying hikes and bike rides in the surrounding mountains.

Ponga’s network of trails offers breathtaking views, while its rivers are perfect for canoeing and fishing. The natural environment is also rich in flora and fauna, making it a haven for nature lovers.

Unlike some of the more tourist-heavy areas of Asturias, Ponga offers a peaceful escape, making it perfect for those looking to unwind and enjoy the serenity of rural Spain.

The slower pace of life and the absence of large crowds add to the village’s charm and appeal to those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city.
