Met Office issues new weather warnings as 15 areas to be battered by rain in hours | Weather | News

The Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings for rain. The new alerts, announced on Tuesday, September 16, will be enforced at different times on Wednesday, September 17.

The first alert covers four areas in northwestern Wales and will be in place between 3am and 12pm tomorrow. A second warning will begin at 6am and will last until 11pm tomorrow, affecting coastal areas in southern Wales. According to the Met Office, this heavy spell of rain in northwestern Wales is expected to bring 30-40mm of rain to fall widely during the first part of Wednesday, with a few places – mainly on the southwest-facing hills – receiving 50-60mm within six hours. In the coastal areas, again, 30-40mm is expected to fall, but with a higher 50-70mm predicted on southwest-facing hills.

Those living in the regions affected have been urged to check if their property could be at risk of flooding, and, if so, consider preparing a flood plan and emergency flood kit. Spray and flooding on roads is also likely to make journey times longer, while bus and train services are also expected to be affected by longer journey times. Some interruption to power supplies and other services is also likely.

With threats of power cuts, people are urged to gather torches and batteries in advance, as well as a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.

The Met Office also urged people to be prepared for these weather warnings to change quickly: “when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area,” its website said.
