Liverpool player ratings vs Burnley as Salah avoids a 4/10 and Gravenberch superb | Football | Sport

Liverpool clinched victory at the death yet again after Mohamed Salah dispatched a penalty in stoppage time at the end of the match. Arne Slot’s lacklustre side were stifled by their tenacious hosts for almost the entire match before giving away the spot kick.

Liverpool turned up at Turf Moor without Alexander Isak, with the Sweden international left out of the matchday squad as he looks to build his fitness following his transfer from Newcastle. And the visitors showed some early signs of promise as they attempted to dominate. Burnley grew into the match and refused to let the Liverpool attack wreak havoc, but Salah clinched the three points for his side with virtually the last kick of the match. And Express Sport is on hand with all the Liverpool player ratings.

Liverpool player ratings vs Burnley (4-2-3-1)

Alisson: 7

Was rarely troubled as the Liverpool defence held firm against a cautious Burnley side.

Dominik Szoboszlai: 7

Slotted in at right-back once again before being pushed into midfield when Conor Bradley came on at the break. Showed off his sweet right foot at times and tried to get involved in attacks. Struck a decent effort at goal just before the hour mark.

Ibrahima Konate: 6

Solid defensively but too slow on the ball when Liverpool needed rhythm. Headed the ball over the crossbar from point blank range following a Liverpool corner 12 minutes into the match.

Virgil van Dijk: 8

Gave the ball away early on as Burnley were presented with the first chance of the match. But was generally a rock at the back as he won his headers and kept the Burnley attackers at bay.

Milos Kerkez: 6

Started ahead of Andy Robertson but was replaced by the Scot before half after being booked for diving.

Alexis Mac Allister: 6

Was lucky to escape serious injury following a challenge from Lesley Ugochukwu in the first half as the Burnley midfielder was cautioned. But was then taken off at half time.

Ryan Gravenberch: 9

Liverpool’s best player on the day. Attempted to get on the ball time and time again and drive his team forward. Showed off his prodigious talents in possession and even flicked the ball over Lyle Foster’s head at one point.

Mohamed Salah: 5

Was a passenger for much of the game. And Slot may be worried by his start to the season, with the winger struggling to hit his usual heights. Was no more than a 4/10 until he fired in the winning goal.

Florian Wirtz: 5

Was under pressure to deliver a big performance after a muted start to his Liverpool career. But left Liverpool fans underwhelmed once again as he failed to ignite the Reds attack. Needs to show the form that persuaded Liverpool to shell out up to £116million for him over the summer.

Cody Gakpo: 4

Played a fine ball into the penalty area early on but it came to nothing. Kept cutting inside when running at Kyle Walker and was too predictable on the ball as Liverpool struggled to carve out clear chances.

Hugo Ekitike: 6

Was isolated up front in the first half as his attacking team-mates struggled to create chances for him. Bent an effort wide of the post just before the break after showing his skill with the ball.

Substitutes

Andy Robertson: 7

Burst into the Burnley penalty area moments after coming on as he attempted to spark the visitors into life.

Conor Bradley: 6

Came on at half time but will be disappointed not to have been handed a start, with Jeremine Frimpong named on the bench following his return from injury.

Federico Chiesa: 6

Came on for Hugo Ekitike with 18 minutes remaining as the visitors desperately chased a goal but had little impact.

Jeremie Frimpong: 6

Returned to action for the first time since the opening night of the season as he was brought on with three minutes remaining.

Rio Ngumoha: 6

Introduced to the action at the same time as Frimpong but couldn’t replicate his last-gasp winner from the Newcastle game.
