Fresh berries are a delicious thing to keep on hand. For a light snack, an addition to breakfast or a sweet treat, they’re unbeatable.
But if you’re a berry fan, you know that keeping them fresh can be a hassle. All too frequently, you reach for your packet of strawberries to find them fuzzy with mould and inedible – but one woman has shared her top tip for keeping them fresh for far longer.
Content creator Carole Jones shared a video on TikTok about how she keeps her strawberries, raspberries and blueberries fresh in the fridge and all it takes is one additional item.
A simple paper towel inside the container your berries come in could prolong their life.
In her video, Carole showed how she places the paper towel inside the plastic clamshell and then flips it to store them upside down in the fridge.
Carole said this makes the berries last “twice as long” as the excess moisture in them is absorbed by the paper.
She also added in the comments that she does not wash her berries before putting them into the fridge as in her opinion this creates too much moisture.
She said: “It turns them into mush and mould.”
However, if you want to wash your fruit, this storage hack doesn’t mean you can’t do that. Simply rinse your berries before you eat them to prevent them getting too much moisture into the packaging.
