Most people treat themselves and perhaps a loved one to a stay at a nice hotel from time to time. But would you be willing to spend thousands on it?

One man has revealed how he spent £2,500 for a single night at what he dubbed ‘London’s most expensive hotel’ – and he’s shared his verdict on whether it was worth the money. Social media star Carmie Sellitto, who goes by @touchdalight on Instagram, regularly reviews high-end products for his 464,000 followers.

In his latest reel, he ventured to The Ritz London hotel.

The five-star establishment, situated in Piccadilly in London, stands as an emblem of elite society and opulence and ranks amongst the globe’s most esteemed and renowned hotels.

Carmie chose to visit and offer his assessment of a room so his audience could gain insight into the legendary venue.

The reel opened with Carmie positioned outside the hotel, telling viewers through a voiceover that he was “staying in the most expensive hotel in London”.

He declared: “This is the Ritz hotel and this is actually known for being one of the most luxurious hotels in the world and I’m staying here tonight,” whilst providing viewers with a glimpse inside the establishment.

Making his way to his accommodation, he continued: “I spent £2,500 a night for this room. Let me show you around.

“As soon as I walked into this room, it just felt so expensive. Like this place was pristine.”

Carmie gave his followers a tour of the room, proudly displaying a complimentary fruit plate and testing out a chair he estimated to be “worth around £5,000”. He shared with viewers: “I had to sit on it and honestly it was the most comfiest chair I’ve ever sat on.”

The social media star also highlighted that everything in the room bore the hotel’s branding, from the pillowcases to the bedsheets and even the tissue box.

Next, Carmie showcased the view from his window, overlooking Green Park. He relayed that the concierge who escorted him to his room claimed it boasted the “best view in the whole hotel”.

Venturing into the bathroom, which he dubbed ‘one of the nicest he’s ever been in’, he exclaimed: “Everything about it just felt crazy.”

He further noted that the bathroom was equipped with “everything you need”, ranging from body wash to body lotion and shampoo, and confirmed guests are permitted to take all the products home.

While Carmie conceded the toilet was “average”, he added it “was just a toilet”.

He posed a question to his viewers: “What do you think? Would you spend £2,500 a night to stay here?”

The post garnered thousands of likes as his fans weighed in on the room.

Many believed the room was worth the price tag, with one person commenting: “It’s the best. And the staff are extraordinary” Another chimed in: “Absolutely wonderful hotel! Hats off!”.

A third fan added: “It looks fabulous and I love that you felt so welcomed. What a stunning place to stay, definitely an ‘I wish’ on my bucket list.”

While a fourth said: “Gorgeous. I love that hotel but I’m definitely on a Premier Inn budget. (Shower is good though).”

Despite numerous glowing responses, some critics reckoned the establishment could benefit from a makeover.

One observer remarked: “It’s so old now, needs a revamp,” whilst another concurred: “It’s so dated.”

Others weren’t particularly taken with the bathroom facilities, with one person commenting: “Is it me or the bathroom tiles look so unmatched? Stunning hotel other than that, not like I would ever be able to book it so thank you for showing it to us.”

Another chipped in: “The bathroom is not impressive, especially compared to the ones in the US.”

Is the Ritz actually London’s most expensive hotel?

The Ritz London isn’t necessarily the capital’s priciest accommodation, though it remains amongst the city’s most opulent and legendary establishments with suite prices surpassing £8,000 nightly.

Alternative premium hotels, including Claridge’s and The Connaught, boast comparable or steeper rates and serve the same wealthy clientele, with suites potentially demanding considerably more.

Whilst the most extravagant suites can leave guests significantly out of pocket, standard room tariffs at the Ritz hover around £725 to £840 per evening, which remains steep but isn’t London’s most costly option. The Royal Suite at The Lanesborough in London, often dubbed the UK’s priciest hotel room, will set you back a staggering £27,000 per night.

It boasts seven bedrooms, round-the-clock butler service, and even includes a Rolls-Royce Phantom for your personal use throughout your stay.

This Regency-style suite is adorned with luxury touches such as 24-carat gold leaf accents, chandeliers, and a fully furnished living area.
