After months of rumours and endless speculation we finally know everything about Apple’s latest iPhones. Four new models were revealed during the firm’s ‘Awe Dropping’ keynote including an all-new iPhone Air which is thinner and lighter than anything we’ve seen before along with a refreshed iPhone 17 Pro that now comes in a pretty unique Cosmic Orange colour. These are clearly eye-catching updates, but the standard iPhone 17 could be the device most people will want to buy.
Although it looks very familiar, this device has received several updates this year, and they have fixed a number of issues we’ve had with older models.
The biggest change has to be the inclusion of a ProMotion display with 120Hz refresh rate. As you can read in our full iPhone 16 review, this screen is something we’ve been wanting for a while and it’s finally here.
ProMotion, which was previously only available on the Pro iPhones, basically means you’ll get a far smoother experience when scrolling through websites and playing games. Once you use it, you’ll never want to go back.
Another change is more storage as standard. In fact, the iPhone 17 now comes with a whopping 256GB, that’s despite the price not going up this year. The iPhone 16 starts with just 128GB, which means you get double the amount without paying a penny extra for the privilege.
Next, there’s good news about charging. The iPhone 17 can go from zero to 50 percent in just 20 minutes via Apple’s new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter. Of course, the US firm no longer ships a plug in the box, so those wanting quick refilling will have to pay extra, but it’s still a nice bonus.
Then there’s improved Ceramic Shield Glass 2 which surrounds the device. This not only stops things cracking but also offers 3 times better scratch resistance than the previous generation.
Finally, Apple has boosted the cameras on the iPhone 17. This includes dual 48MP rear cameras for the very first time. There’s also a selfie boost thanks to an all-new Centre Stage front camera. This is the first square front camera sensor on iPhone, offering a wider field of view and higher resolution.
Users also no longer have to rotate their iPhone to take a landscape selfie — they can now take photos and videos in portrait or landscape while holding their iPhone vertically.
You get all these updates without the price going up. The iPhone 17 still starts from £799.
