Log burner glass will look ‘like new’ in minutes if you use 1 natural item

With the days getting shorter and the weather colder, many Britons will be preparing their homes for autumn. One task that many homeowners might find themselves doing is cleaning the stove glass on their wood burners, ready to be used in the coming weeks. After months of disuse, log burners are likely looking a little worse for wear, with soot, dust, and tar stains plastered across the glass.

Rather than spending hours scrubbing at the glass, fans of cleaning sensation, Mrs Hinch, have shared a simple method that will leave the glass “like new” in a matter of minutes. The genius method was shared on the Facebook cleaning group, Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips, after a user asked for advice.

They posted on the group: “Could anyone recommend anything to clean the glass on my stove?

“I have scrubbed it with a Brillo pad and glass cleaner but it’s done nothing! Any help would be appreciated!”

The post received more than 60 comments from Mrs Hinch fans, with the most suggested response being to use the ash itself.

Julie Porter said: “Get some of the burnt ash and rub it on and wipe off with kitchen roll.”

Chris Ellis replied: “Screwed up wet newspaper dipped in the ashes will remove it.”

Sarah Dobbs commented: “Dampen a piece of kitchen roll, dip in the fire ash and then rub on the glass. Works 10/10.”

MJ Morley wrote: “Use the ash from inside on a damp cloth then wash off with warm soapy water, after that polish with newspaper. It will look like brand new.”

Ash is a natural, mildly abrasive cleaner that can clean away soot without scratching the glass.

When mixed with water, an abrasive paste is formed which easily removes the stubborn debris.

Alternatively, Mrs Hinch fans also recommended using vinegar, The Pink Stuff and oven cleaner to clean log burner glass.
