Lasagne is a quick, easy and delicious dish to make at home – but there’s one item you could be adding to it which will make it taste even better. Lasagne is a comfort food classic, if you’re a big lover of a pasta dish, it’s no doubt one you’ll make time and time again. If you want to take your lasagne from great to even better, there’s one unexpected ingredient you should be adding.
Pickle Jar Studios recommends adding cottage cheese. It says: “Use a blend of cottage cheese and ricotta cheese. Adding large curd or regular cottage cheese will impart a creaminess and give moisture to the ricotta cheese mixture.”
It adds: “The first time I tried it I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but now I can’t make lasagna without cottage cheese.”
Cottage cheese might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a traditional lasagne but it can transform your meal and boost flavour.
Unlike traditional ricotta, which is often used in lasagne recipes, cottage cheese is lighter, slightly tangy, and packed with protein.
Heath.com says: “Cottage cheese has long been a popular choice among athletes and gym-goers, thanks to its high protein content.
“The protein in cottage cheese mostly comes from casein, which your body slowly digests.
“As a dairy product, cottage cheese is considered a complete protein. It contains all nine essential amino acids that your body cannot make on its own.”
If you’re looking for another way to spice up your lasagne, Pickle Jar Studios also says you could add certain types of sausage.
It suggests: “Using half hot Italian sausage and half mild will give a nice heat level without being overly spicy.
“If you like things sort of medium hot, or to have a little bit of a kick without going over the top on the spice, this is the balance of spice and sweetness that everyone will love.”
By adding this cottage cheese to your lasagne, you could unlock a new flavour combination leaving your dinner to taste even better than usual.
