A major city in Spain is poised to embark on an ambitious project that would see one of the ‘tallest statues on the planet’ erected. Whether you agree with it or not, Spain and bullfighting go hand in hand, with the bullfighting scene being particularly famous in Madrid.

Spain’s capital is home to the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, the largest bullfighting ring in Spain and widely considered one of the most important bullrings in the world. Inaugurated on June 17, 1931, the bullring has 23,798 spectators, making it the third-largest bullring in the world. To honour the traditional and cultural spectacle of bullfighting, Spain is to launch an eye-catching project that it hopes will rival some of the most iconic buildings in the world, from the  Eiffel Tower to the Statue of Liberty.

The Spanish Academy of Bullfighting has unveiled plans for an enormous statue that would stretch 300 meters into the sky and 650 meters from end to end, making it one of the tallest statues in the world.

Named the “Toro de España”  the colossal bull horns will hold a glass-encased observation deck, allowing visitors to take in Madrid’s iconic skyline.

The 300-metre-long bull would be the same height as the Eiffel tower.

The location of this gigantic bull is yet to be decided; however, El Molar, a municipality of the Community of Madrid, believes they are the perfect place.

Fernando Hernández, the municipality’s tourist board, said: “Our shield already includes a bull and we are strongly linked to bullfighting.

“In addition, we organize bullfights both day and night during our festivals, including for the field.”

Mr Hernández, believes the project “would bring a surge in jobs and tourists, and the town would grow significantly.”

El Molar has already identified an ideal terrain, a plot of land that has lied vacant for two decades which was was intended for an industrial area that was never built.

It is hoped the sculpture will create a space dedicated to the world of bullfigting with commercial and cultural zones, restaurants and souvenir shops all to surround the statue’s base.
