Manchester United survived a scare to beat Bodo/Glimt 3-2 in Ruben Amorim’s first home game at the helm.

The former Sporting manager stared down his players with an air of disbelief when his Old Trafford bow started with an Alejandro Garnacho goal in the first minute, four days after Marcus Rashford’s lightning-quick goal at Ipswich Town.

But the game started to get away from Amorim when Hakon Evjen and Philip Zinckernagel responded with a quickfire double.

Rasmus Hojlund levelled just before the break, when Amorim reverted to a four-at-the-back formation, plugging the gaps which made life easy for the visitors.. Hojlund poked home his second in the 50th minute and United got the job done – albeit having made hard work of it.

Here, Express Sport takes you through how each United player performed at Old Trafford…

Man Utd player ratings (3-4-3)

Andre Onana: 6

Two of the four shots on target he faced nestled in the back of his net. He did, however, do well to stop a last-gasp free-kick.

Noussair Mazraoui: 8

General play was good. Brilliant feet and an accurate cross to claim the assist for Hojlund’s first of the evening. Pinged a great ball over the top for Marcus Rashford late on.

Matthijs De Ligt: 5 (Casemiro, 66)

Looked ropey when United were under the cosh in the first half, and wasn’t tested at all after they improved in the second.

Lisandro Martinez: 5 (Luke Shaw, 59)

Was caught miles out of position for the Philip Zinckernagel goal – a clear example of where United players need clarity around the finer details of Amorim’s system.

Antony: 5 (Amad Diallo, 59)

Ineffective at right wing-back and even when he did get the ball, often took the easy option.

Manuel Ugarte: 6

The Uruguayan was overrun in midfield during the first half but it wasn’t all bad. His good run was found by Mason Mount before a low cross left Hojlund with a tap-in.

Bruno Fernandes: 5

On the ball he was good as usual, spraying long and short passes. But off it, he proved that United are far too vulnerable with him as one of the two deeper-lying central midfielders. He was caught out for the Hakon Evjen goal and generally got at throughout the first half.

Tyrell Malacia: 5 (Diogo Dalot, 45)

Tough task at left wing-back in his first competitive appearance for well over a year, and he still has plenty of warming up to do. Got completely outpaced for the Zinckernagel goal and was hauled off at half-time.

Mason Mount: 7 (Marcus Rashford, 59)

Looked sharp playing as the right-sided inside forward. Hit the crossbar early in the second half, then came up with a brilliant back-heel as part of Hojlund’s second.

Rasmus Hojlund: 9

Played a huge part in the first goal, chasing down goalkeeper Nikita Khaikin and forcing the mistake. Clinical touch and strike to volley home United’s second, and then a close-range finish to nab his second. Top night for the Dane.

Alejandro Garnacho: 7

Tapped in United’s first and had relentless energy down the left-hand side. Overall a very positive performance but marked down due to the number of high-quality chances he missed.

SUBS

Diogo Dalot: 7

United improved dramatically after his introduction.

Marcus Rashford: 6

Combined well with Amad and tried to stamp his authority from the bench.

Amad Diallo: 7

Great long ball to Fernandes and a powerful run before finding Garnacho – two chances which could easily have resulted in goals.

Luke Shaw: 6

Quiet night after coming on in the second half.

Casemiro: 5

Came on in the heart of defence and made a clumsy mistake which almost let the visitors back in.
