A scorching heatwave with temperatures up to 41C is to smash into Spain in just hours. Weather maps generated by WXCharts on August 5 show the Iberian peninsula turning volcanic red and a whopping 15 Spanish cities reaching blistering temperatures.

Andalusia and central Spain are set to see the brunt of the staggering heatwave, with the mercury forecast to topple over 40C, according to weather maps for August 6.  It comes as Brits flock to the Iberian Peninsula for summer holidays during the peak season in July and August. Seville, often called the ‘frying pan of Europe’ due to its extremely hot summers, is on track to be one of the hottest cities in Spain tomorrow, the maps suggest.

Weather maps for August 6-8 show much of the country covered by a wall of dark red. The burning heatwave is predicted to smash into the country on August 6.

At 3pm tomorrow, Seville, Cordoba and Granada will all see the mercury hover between a burning 40C-41C, according to the maps. Elsewhere, Badajoz, a city in southwest Spain is on track to see the mercury reach a balmy 39C.

As we go into August 7, the heatwave shows no signs of letting up on the maps, with the entity of Spain on track to see temperatures of 30C or higher, according to the maps.

Extremadura, a western Spanish region bordering Portugal, will see temperatures hit 40C, whilst central Spain will see the mercury reach a blistering 41C, the maps show.

Spanish capital Madrid will be a couple of degrees cooler at 37C, whilst Seville and its neighbouring areas will see sizzling highs of 40C.

On Friday August 8 temperatures will drop slightly, however, this will not offer much respite from the burning weather as the mercury will still soar to 38C in Madrid and large parts of Andalusia.

Valladolid, a city in northwest Spain and Zaragoza, the capital of northeastern Spain’s Aragon region are forecast highs of 37C.

Extremadura will be a degree cooler at 36C whilst Bilbao in Northern Spain will see highs of 38C, the maps suggest.
