Roses will be healthy and look their best after 3 simple tasks now

August can bring heatwaves, drought, and hosepipe bans, which can have a huge impact on your garden plants. While you’ll likely have plenty of flowers blooming in your garden, they may require some extra care to withstand any periods of particularly high temperatures.

With this in mind, the experts at English Roses have shared a month-to-month guide for caring for your garden roses. From preparing garden beds in January to tool maintenance in December, there are tasks that can be done every month to keep your roses in tip-top condition. For August, the pros suggest continuing to water well, with more experts at Rose Hom Garden advising to water them two to three times per week.

You should also continue deadheading your rosebushes when needed throughout the month. The experts also recommend using liquid feed until late August.

When watering and feeding your roses, be sure to check for problems such as rust and mildew. These should be treated as soon as possible to prevent them from spreading further.

Alongside these easy steps, there is also a way you can encourage more blooms, while also bringing some of the beauty of these flowers into your home.

The pros write: “With flowers in full bloom, and their fragrance at its height, this is the perfect time to cut your roses for indoor arranging.

“An abundance of flowers will mean that even when you cut some, there will still be plenty in the garden, and you can enjoy their beauty and scent indoors too.

“Cutting the still blooming plants won’t hurt the plant either – instead it will encourage more blooms to develop.”
