With air fryers becoming a daily essential in kitchens across the UK, many users are realising that layers of dirt and grime are building up inside of the appliance. However, one savvy cleaner has revealed a natural and budget-friendly solution that removes thick grease, stubborn fats and oily residue.
Cleaning expert Lynsey Crombie revealed that soda crystals, a common household staple, is the secret weapon to breaking down grease – fast – and no scrubbing is required. Just soda crystals and hot water can lift stuck-on residue and cut through layers of built-up oils.
Sharing her recommendation on TikTok, Lynsey recommends filling the air fryer basket or drawer with hot water and sprinkling in one to two tablespoons of soda crystals.
Then let the solution sit for up to 15 minutes to allow the natural degreasing agents to work its magic.
Once the soak is complete, simply rinse and wipe with a soft cloth, and watch as even the greasiest stains vanish without a trace.
Such a simple cleaning hack “keeps your air fryer looking good as new”, said Lynsey, and it also helps the machine to run efficiently.
Lynsey added: “Keep on top of cleaning your air fryer by getting into the habit of cleaning it after every single use.”
For added ease, the cleaning professional also suggests using silicone liners inside of the air fryer.
She explained: “Popping these in your air fryer will protect the grills and basket and save your air fryer from getting a build-up of grease and grime.”
