How to remove stains from toilet seats fast without scrubbing or bleach

To follow Nancy’s cleaning method, you will need to start by removing the seat from the toilet.

Most toilet seats are attached to the toilet with fittings held together by two bolts, which are usually hidden by two plastic caps at the back of the toilet seat itself.

After removing the toilet seat, pop them into a bathtub that’s filled with hot water and add in 100g of washing soda, otherwise known as soda crystals.

She captioned the video: “Toilet seat stains dissolved using 100g washing soda hot soak.”

Nancy left her two stained toilet seats soaking for four hours; however, one cleaning enthusiast who followed this method noticed the marks vanished after just 15 minutes.

@sonya1904 wrote: “Did this the other day and it works a treat. The stains were gone in 15 minutes without having to scrub. Thanks, Nancy.”

While the toilet seat was soaking, Nancy used this time to clean the rest of the toilet with all-purpose antibacterial spray and an old toothbrush.

After four hours, Nancy checked in on her toilet seats, and you could see the once almost clear water had turned a pale brown shade. Showing the camera the after results, there were “no stains” left on.

How to remove a toilet seat

Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the protective caps (this may be harder for older seats which have sat there for some time). Gently work your way around the cap with the screwdriver head to carefully remove it.

Once you have taken off the cap, you’ll see the top of the bolts which are holding your seat in place. Underneath the toilet, you will notice the bolts sticking out, which will be held firm by two nuts or wingnuts. Use your pliers to keep the nuts in place and unscrew the bolts with your screwdriver.

Some toilet seats will be held in place using a slightly different fitting, but they generally all work in the same way. If yours is different, take a look around the fittings and you should be able to work out how to detach it.
