Princess Kate shares one of the same hobbies as many other Brits. Despite her role in the royal family, the princess enjoys one aspect of gardening so many are passionate about.
As well as having a deep love for photography and sport, Princess Kate enjoys all things to do with nature. There’s one particular aspect of gardening many Brits are passionate about and that’s catering for the wildlife in their outdoor space.
Princess Kate is believed to be an avid beekeeper, with her very own beehive at her Amner Hall home in Norfolk, one she frequently visits during half-terms and the summer holiday.
This was revealed in June 2021 during a visit to The Natural History Museum, where she met with some young children to learn about the Urban Nature Project.
The princess did not turn up to the event empty-handed and brought a jar of her own homemade honey. According to The Mirror, Kate asked the children at the event: “Would you like to try some? This came specially from my beehive.”
A photo was also shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ official social media channels in 2023 of the princess in a beekeeping suit to mark World Bee Day.
The caption read: “We are buzzing about #WorldBeeDay. Bees are a vital part of our ecosystem and today is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the essential role bees and other pollinators play in keeping people and the planet healthy.”
While this isn’t necessarily a common hobby, it is one she shares with her younger brother James Middleton.
In an interview with People, James said: “Beekeeping to me is a meditation. It’s a chance to escape my mind and be so consumed by something that hours can pass by without knowing it.
“Honey is one of nature’s finest medicines — from antibacterial properties, aiding digestion, hay fever, colds, energy, and even as a cure for sleeping disorders — the list goes on.
“I have a teaspoon of honey every day and couldn’t recommend it more.”
The passion for beekeeping also exists on her husband’s side of the family, with King Charles also sharing the same love of bees as his daughter-in-law.
The 75-year-old monarch reportedly has beehives at Buckingham Palace and at his Highgrove House country home in Tetbury, where he spends plenty of time each year. Bees are a crucial part of the ecosystem and they’re vital for pollination and food production.
