A new picture starring Liam Neeson has been hailed by fans and critics alike. The Naked Gun is an action comedy film directed by Akiva Schaffer, who co-wrote the script with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. It serves as a legacy sequel to Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult (1994) and is the fourth film in The Naked Gun franchise. The film’s cast includes Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, and Danny Huston, alongside Neeson.
The film’s synopsis reads: “The son of Lt. Frank Drebin of Police Squad follows his father’s footsteps through an entanglement involving an apparent suicide investigation and the fate of the famous squadron.”
The Naked Gun has been met with high praise upon its release. It has garnered an impressive 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics’ consensus reading: “With Liam Neeson’s gravelly gravitas proving to be a perfect fit for Frank Drebin’s deadpan buffoonery, The Naked Gun revives the original trilogy’s daffy sense of humour like it never went out of style.”
One critic said: “An extremely funny sequel that deserves to have lots of theatres full of people laughing.”
Another hailed the film, stating: “The Naked Gun is one of the best comedy sequels of all time, and it’s a legacy sequel done right, best enjoyed with a chilli dog and a cup of coffee.”
Another critic wrote in their review: “This is the kind of movie that is pure joy. It offers a non-stop rollout of good-natured comedy, with a group of actors all willing to play along with the silliness.”
“Absolutely hilarious. One of the best movies of the year,” a fourth added.
An audience reviewer said: “I grew up with the original movies and the humor is subtle but similar to those enjoyed the refreshing change from violence and blood of other current movies. Loved dynamic of Neeson and Anderson.”
“So much fun! I havent laughed in a movie like that in a long time. Great cast and great jokes! we need the laugh right now. Go see it,” added another.
The Naked Gun is out in UK cinemas now.
