One UK town has had worrying news about its beloved pier after damage was discovered to it. Eastbourne’s Pier was closed for a day after Coastguard crews were called following a report from a member of the public who said an area of the decking had come away.
The Coastguard cordoned off the section of the pier that was unsafe, and it was later closed by pier management.
In a post on social media, the coastguard wrote: “Team tasked to Eastbourne pier yesterday to assess some damage reported by a member of the public.
“Once stood down we were then re-tasked elsewhere. No further details to follow.
“Busiest month recorded for us here at Eastbourne!”
The pier’s owner, Sheikh Abid Gulzar, said repairs were carried out “immediately”.
“The Pier was closed at 7.30pm, 30 mins before its closing time,” he said.
“The repairs were carried out immediately and the Pier was open next day as normal.
