Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been accused of “looking for some handouts” from King Charles after reportedly losing their Netflix deal. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been in a $100million deal with Netflix for some time, however this is reportedly set to end in September.
With a big hit to their bank account on the way, with Netflix reportedly not happy about some of the viewing figures of their shows such as Polo, one royal expert believes that this loss of income to fund their Montecito lifestyle could explain the recent “peace summit” earlier this month between two of the couple’s aides and a senior aide of King Charles. It was reported earlier this month that Tobyn Andreae, the King and Queen’s director of communications, had an informal meeting with Sussex aides Meredith Maines and Liam Maguire, with the trio being pictured together in London.
The exact details of what was said at the meeting remain unconfirmed, however journalist and author Robert Jobson believes Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, losing their Netflix deal could have had a part to play.
Talking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, Jobson said: “Well, the deal was always set about $100 million, wasn’t it?
“And the talk of that figure sort of blew a lot of people’s minds, but I think that was for productions and things that they’re supposed to have done.
“Where does it leave them? Probably with a bit of a bowl out, looking for some handouts.
“Maybe that’s why they were over with their staff, were over here having discussions with the King. I don’t know.”
Neither Prince Harry, who quit royal life in 2020, or King Charles were at the meeting with their aides.
Instead, it is believed that they gave permission for talks to take place.
This comes just months after Harry told the BBC that his father “won’t speak” to him, and that he would love to reconcile with his royal relatives.
