A Saudi prince who spent two decades in a coma following a devastating car crash in London has passed away, according to his father’s announcement. Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, the eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, died at 36 years old. Known as the “Sleeping Prince”, he had remained unconscious for over twenty years after a catastrophic accident at 15, whilst studying as a military cadet in London.

The prince sustained serious brain trauma and internal haemorrhaging in the collision, and despite emergency medical intervention, never fully regained consciousness. He received treatment at King Abdulaziz Medical City, where he remained on life support until his death. His devastated father announced the tragic news on social media, stating: “With hearts believing in Allah will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today.”

Throughout the years, Prince Khaled maintained a devoted presence by his son’s bedside and refused to consider withdrawing life support. During hospital visits with his sons Saud and Mohammed, Prince Al-Waleed’s younger siblings, Prince Khaled continuously sought prayers for his recovery and awakening, reports the Mirror.

Although the prince occasionally showed slight physical reactions that sparked hopes of improvement, he remained in a grave condition until his final moments. His hospital ward regularly welcomed visitors who came to offer prayers and encouragement. Funeral prayers for the prince will be held on Sunday at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. Following Prince Khaled’s announcement on X, many people shared their condolences.
