Keeping on top of the laundry is no doubt one of the most annoying household chores there is. Every day there are more towels to wash, sheets to fold away and skirts to iron, no matter how often you try to get the various household chores done.
And the worst thing of all is when your clothes and towels lose that just-washed smell after just a day or two, especially if they have been folded away or hung up. It can make all your hard work feel useless, as smelling fresh and gorgeous is the reward for tackling the monstrous task that is the laundry. However, I’ve discovered the perfect cheap hack for beautifully scented laundry that lingers long after you hang it up.
I am unfortunately not lucky enough to live in a house with a tumble dryer, so it’s very important to use the right products if that stale laundry smell is to be avoided.
And I’ve found that after years of drying my clothes inside, searching for that elusive fresh smell that’s hard to achieve without outdoor or tumble drying, there’s one thing that has worked better than the rest.
Dr Beckmann’s fabric conditioner sheets are really all you need for fresh-smelling clothes and towels, especially if you’re drying your clothes inside. Since trying them out, I’ve been so impressed with how good each load has ended up smelling, and they couldn’t be any easier to use.
How to make your laundry smell amazing
All you need for the freshest clothes and towels time after time is just one of these handy fabric conditioner sheets. They come in two lovely fragrances – fresh blossom and fresh breeze – and as soon as you open the packet you’re hit with those impressively strong aromas.
Just add in a sheet to the washing machine drum – as well as your usual detergent, but there’s no need for fabric conditioner here – and wash as normal.
Then, once you take the laundry out and hang it up to dry, your whole home will smell amazing too. Not only that, but the scents stay put for a week – if not even longer – which is so rare, especially when it comes to towels.
There’s no sticky residue either, as the sheets dissolve directly into the drum. I’m hoping with a few more washes that they’ll start to soften up my towels – but if not, there are other ways to do this, like adding white vinegar to your loads of laundry.
You can buy the Dr Beckmann fabric conditioner sheets from Amazon for £3.49, or Tesco for £2.50 if you’ve got a Clubcard.
