King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark has extended their private holiday again this summer as they continues to enjoy time away from royal duties. The King and Queen originally took time away from Denmark earlier this month, leaving Frederik’s mother Queen Margrethe, 85, to act as regent in their absence from July 9.
The royal couple were then expected to return to their royal duties on July 13, according to Danish newspaper BILLED-BLADET, however this was not the case as they extended it by a few days. Now, King Frederik, 56, and Queen Mary, 53, have extended their time away again.
Rather than Queen Margrethe, who abdicated in January 2024 after 52 years on the throne, staying as regent, the couple decided to hand this role to their son and first-in-line to the throne Crown Prince Christian, 19.
He is now set to serve as regent until the King and Queen return, which is believed to be July 20.
It is not known how the couple are spending their well-deserved private holiday, or whether their younger teenage children Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine are with them.
As reported by GB News, Queen Mary – who was born in Australia – tends to visit her hometown Tasmania during breaks from royal duty, however it is not known if the King goes with her.
He was recently spotted solo in the UK on July 7 when he stepped out at Wimbledon.
The couple are expected to relocate to the Danish royal family’s summer residence Gråsten Palace shortly after they return from this private vacation.
It is believed they will then spend the rest of the summer there.
When it is not the summer holidays, the couple tend to live at Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg in Copenhagen.
